Ischemic Heart Disease Facts And Overview
Cardiac ischemia is mostly due to coronary artery disease; it is common cause of Mortality in the US . It is always seen in middle-age male and postmenopausal female.
Ischemic Heart Disease:
Defined as any of a group of acute or chronic cardiac diseases resulting from inadequate supply of oxygenated blood to the heart.
Causes of Ischemic Heart Disease:
1-Decrease in blood flow: -Conroy vessel occlusion (e.g., with atherosclerotic plaque, thrombus) -Vasospasm (stress, hypertension …)
2-Decrease in amount of oxygenated blood reaching the heart: -Anemia -Carboxyhemoglobinemia -Hypotension
3-Increase in myocardial O2 demands: -Thyrotoxicosis -increase work load
Ischemic Heart Disease Can be :
1-Angina pectoris: is due to transient cardiac ischemia without cell death resulting
in substernal chest pain.
2-Myocardial infarction (MI): occurs when a localized area of cardiac muscle under-goes coagulative necrosis due to ischemia.
